If you're craving ice cream at home but don't have an ice cream maker, these No-Churn Ice Cream Recipes are the answer! These stunning ice creams are made with a mixer, and taste even better than they look.
Ice cream is probably one of my favorite desserts of all time - I can eat it in hot or cold weather, and there's so many different flavor combinations to try!
However, we do not have an ice cream machine at home. We can't justify the cost of a quality one, much less the counter space. Because of this, I always reach for a good no-churn ice cream recipe when the craving hits.
The following recipes are made with common kitchen tools like a mixer and a loaf pan. These are typically called no-churn ice cream recipes, and all start out with a base of cream & sweetened condensed milk. They're easy to make vegan/dairy-free, and store well in the freezer. Bring out a big batch of homemade ice cream for the next summer BBQ or family event, and impress all of your guests! And don't forget to pin your favorite recipes for later.
But wait: How do you make ice cream at home... without an ice cream machine?
It's really simple. Whip cold heavy cream until you have a big bowl of homemade whipped cream. Next, gently fold in sweetened condensed milk for sweetness and any flavorings or mix-ins. Layer everything in a freezer-safe container, seal well, and freeze overnight.
That's it! Now that you have the basics down, let's get to making some creamy, rich frozen treats right at home!

Equipment Notes for No-Churn Ice Cream
No ice cream machine at home? No problem. You can make quality ice cream with lots of creative flavor combinations while using kitchen tools and equipment that you probably already have!
- Stand Mixer (or Hand Mixer): To whisk up the heavy cream to that perfect light and fluffy consistency. A stand mixer is more hands-off - no pun intended - but you can certain use a large bowl and a hand mixer if that's what you have at home.
- Whisk Attachment: If you're using a stand mixer, the whisk attachment is what you want to pull out for whipping the cream. The shapes help incorporate a ton of air into the cream. Pro tip: Place your attachments and bowl into the freezer before whipping.
- Silicone Spatula: This tool gently mixes the ice cream base together without breaking the cream, plus it does a great job of scraping the bowl for an even consistency.
- Freezer-Safe Container: My go-to is a loaf pan. It's just deep enough to get those beautiful layers with your mix-ins, but it's also so easy to scoop ice cream out of the pan. Any freezer-friendly container will work; just remember to seal it well so none of the freezer taste gets into your ice cream.
- Saucepot (optional): For certain ice cream recipes that call for jam or preserves, you can quickly make a compote using fruit, lemon or lime juice, and a sweetener of your choice. Use a saucepot to cook the fruit down to your preferred consistency, and let cool before mixing into the ice cream base.
- Chef's Knife (optional): Use a quality, sharp knife to chop up certain mix-ins like cookies, candy bars, or chocolate.
1. Cherry Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

Cherries and chocolate are one of my absolute favorite flavor combinations.
This recipe for Cherry Chip Ice Cream uses fresh cherries and cooks them down until soft and sweet. We then stir in some chocolate shreds to ensure they are in every bite. And that beautiful rosy pink color in the ice cream? It's all natural - made with the cherry juice from our pan!
If you have extra dark cherries lying around after this recipe, make my Cherry Apple Crisp and serve both for a crowd.
2. Cookies and Cream Ice Cream

An absolute classic flavor! This no-churn Cookies & Cream Ice Cream was the first frozen dessert recipe that I shared on Coined Cuisine.
Use a few different textures of crushed cookies in this recipe for best results; some larger pieces, and some really small crumbs. Serve in between two warmed Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies for a "cookie-squared" ice cream sandwich - yum!
3. Blueberry Crumble Ice Cream

Blueberry Crumble Ice Cream is one of those desserts that will fool everyone into thinking you bought a pint from a specialty shop!
Imagine vanilla bean ice cream with swirls of homemade blueberry compote and a buttery brown sugar crumble throughout. You don't have to imagine for long, because this recipe comes together really easily for a delectable treat!
4. Birthday Cake Ice Cream

Who doesn't like a good funfetti-flavored dessert? With my recipe for Birthday Cake Ice Cream, you don't need an ice cream machine to make this festive sweet treat!
Use store-bought cupcakes if you're short on time, or break up pieces of Homemade Funfetti Cupcakes right into the cream base.
5. Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream

This is another ice cream flavor inspired by a famous dessert! Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream is simply indulgent with a cheesecake-flavored ice cream base, swirls of homemade strawberry jam, and crushed graham crackers.
Instead of straining out the fruit and seeds, I recommend keeping some strawberry pieces in the jam for a great texture.
6. Double Dark Chocolate Ice Cream

My Double Dark Chocolate Ice Cream is made with melted dark chocolate and Dutch-processed cocoa powder for double the cocoa flavor. It's incredibly creamy and decadent; serve as is, or add tasty mix-ins like chocolate chips or swirls of salted caramel!
7. Butter Pecan Ice Cream

This is a staple ice cream flavor for southern Black Americans. Butter Pecan Ice Cream is packed with rich, buttery praline pecans in every bite. It has subtle warmth from the cinnamon and a smooth creamy texture. If you've never tasted praline pecan ice cream before, it will surely become your new favorite!
Place a scoop on top of my Brown Sugar Blondies fresh out of the oven - these two sweets pair perfectly together.
8. Lemon Blackberry Crisp Ice Cream

Lemon Blackberry Crisp Ice Cream is decadent, refreshing, and filled with mix-ins. We take a sweet lemon cream base and add tons of homemade blackberry compote and crumbled shortbread cookies (made from scratch!)
For a silky smooth dessert, strain out the blackberry seeds before allowing the jam to set up.
Frequently Asked Questions
Not at all! While many recipes (especially those that require an ice cream maker) call for milk or eggs, my no-churn ice cream recipes do not need either of those ingredients.
This usually happens due to overmixing. You can pour in a little bit of cold heavy cream into the bowl, and gently hand-fold it into the curdled whipped cream using a spatula until it smooths out.
I also recommend placing your mixing bowl and tools into the freezer before whipping cream to keep everything as cold as possible.
Yes! Use vegan mix-ins like cookies and jam, or utilize agave for your sweetener.
You can find non-dairy heavy cream and vegan sweetened condensed coconut milk in the grocery store. If you're up to it, make your own sweetened condensed milk using oat or almond milk.
I like to store in deli containers if the ice cream will be eaten within a week, or add it to an airtight container and it will keep for up to 3 weeks.
You can also find cardboard pint-sized ice cream containers online.
