Crispy Baked Hot Honey Chicken is the perfect dinnertime recipe for the family! We're going to make panko-breaded chicken in the oven, so you have a hands-free and easy meal on the table in 20 minutes.

A parchment-lined pan of baked hot honey chicken with a spoon of hot honey on the side.

No fryer, no big vat of oil, and NO cornflakes - my recipe for Crispy Oven-Baked Chicken with Hot Honey sauce is going to become a mainstay on your weekday dinner menu.

    Ingredients

    • Panko Breadcrumbs - If I'm oven-baking or air frying chicken, I don't like using cornflakes as a breading... You can get a super crispy coating using panko breadcrumbs! Grab the unseasoned kind so you can control the spices yourself.
    • Homemade Hot Honey Sauce - Nowadays, they sell hot honey sauce in the stores. But it's so easy to make your own! With just 3 ingredients and a couple minutes on the stove, you'll have a super tasty and customizable hot honey sauce that goes great on everything.

How to Make Crispy Oven-Baked Chicken

My method for baking breaded chicken in the oven is very hands-off. You don't even need to flip the chicken breasts!

    1. Start off by getting your dredging bowls together. One bowl will have plain flour, one bowl will have our eggs/liquid, and the last bowl will have the seasoned breadcrumb mixture.
    2. Don't forget to season the chicken beforehand - we want flavor all throughout each bite.
    3. Dip your seasoned chicken breasts in the plain flour, then the liquid mixture, then the panko breadcrumbs. I like to pat the breadcrumbs into the chicken to really get a good crust.
    4. Let the chicken sit for just a few minutes while you preheat your oven.
    5. Bake for 20 minutes - no need to flip! Once the chicken is done, slather them with your hot honey sauce and keep a bit extra for dipping.

    • 1 ½ tablespoon Adobo seasoning
    • ½ tablespoon chili powder

    Panko Breading & Other Binders

    • 1 ¼ cups panko breadcrumbs
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1 teaspoon onion powder
    • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
    • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
    • 2 count eggs

    • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour

    Hot Honey Sauce

    • ½ cup honey
    • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
    • ½ teaspoon chili powder
    • 1 tablespoon hot sauce

    Instructions

    • If the chicken breasts are large, half them to make 4 pieces.
    • Season with the adobo seasoning and chili powder, then set aside to marinate for at least 10 minutes.
    • Meanwhile, prepare your bowls for breading.
    • One bowl will have the panko breadcrumbs and the listed seasonings, one bowl will have the eggs, hot sauce, and buttermilk, and the last bowl will just have the plain flour.
    • Dip the seasoned chicken into the plain flour bowl, followed by the liquid bowl, and then finally the panko breadcrumbs.
    • Preheat the oven to 400℉ and let the breaded chicken sit while it's heating up.
    • Line a sheet pan with parchment paper and bake for 20 minutes.
    • With just a couple minutes left in the cooking time, add the honey, cayenne, chili powder, and hot sauce to a sauce pot and stir on medium-low heat until the sauce is thinned and fully combined.
    • Brush the hot honey on the chicken breasts. Serve with freshly chopped parsley and enjoy!
