Make a batch of Watermelon Refresher during the sweltering summer months for a 5-minute drink that's equal parts hydrating and delicious. All you need is a good blender, plus some ice for serving!

This mocktail recipe is so refreshing and filled with nutrients! Made with only 4 ingredients, including a quick simple syrup for sweetness, you'll want to make a big batch to have on hand.

    Ingredients

A wooden board containing the ingredients for a mocktail, including bowls of watermelon, club soda, simple syrup, and limes.
    • Watermelon - Grab a good watermelon and chop yourself to save a little more money. If you don't want to bother with the whole fruit, you can find chopped watermelon at the grocery store.
    • Simple Syrup - To sweeten the drink without sugar crystals making everything gritty. I have a recipe post on making simple syrup; but it's just equal parts sugar and water dissolved over medium heat.
    • Club Soda - This adds effervescence (bubbles and fizz) plus a little more volume to the drink.
    • Lime Zest - For a hint of bright citrus flavor and aroma.

    Variations and Substitutions

Watermelon Refresher Cocktail: Add in gin, tequila, or vodka after blending the fruit.

Frozen Watermelon Refresher: Instead of serving over ice, freeze the watermelon chunks then blend everything together! I recommend adding a little more syrup (to taste) to avoid diluting the flavor.

Dipped Rim: Dip the tops of the glasses into some extra simple syrup, and coat with coarse sugar or Tajin for a fun sugar or salt rim!

How to Make a Watermelon Refresher

This is a really easy and quick drink recipe; perfect for making larger batches when you're hosting or making a quick single-serve glass at home.

Simply blend all of your ingredients together and serve over ice.

    Recipe Pro Tip

    1. Like a smooth sip? Use a sieve. You can run the blended juice through a fine mesh sieve to remove any pulp.

    Recipe FAQs

Can I add alcohol to this drink?

Of course - this recipe works great as either a zero-proof drink or a cocktail.

Vodka, prosecco, gin, or tequila all pair well with watermelon.

Can I make this ahead of time?

I recommend blending right before serving.

It keeps well in the fridge for up to 3 days, but you will have to shake again before serving; the pulp tends to separate from the juice and floats to the top.

Refresher is right! This was right on time during a hot NM day! We kept it non-alcoholic for the weekday, but will try some vodka inside this weekend!
