Grass Ain't Greener Green Smoothie Bowl (Whole30!)

For the 2nd installment of my music smoothie bowl series, I present to you - the Grass Ain't Greener Green Smoothie Bowl. We make it with a super thick base of kiwi, spinach, and bananas... what a way to start your morning off with clean eating!

A Green Smoothie Bowl topped with kiwi, strawberries, shredded coconut, and pistachios.

I named this after one of my favorite songs off of Breezy's most recent album. From the moment that Chris Brown released "Run It!" on 106 & Park, I've been obsessed. I was that kid who had his magazine covers in all of my binders in school & bought every CD. He's honestly an amazing music artist and I'm dedicating this bowl to this song!

    Ingredients

    • Frozen Bananas - Frozen sliced bananas give our smoothie bowl base a beautifully thick consistency, as well as natural sweetness! The darker & softer your banana was before freezing, the sweeter it will be.
    • Kiwi - I love kiwi for green smoothie bowls. It gives the bowl a bit of tanginess to offset all your sweet flavors, and the bright green color can't be beat!
    • Chopped Spinach - It's always a great idea to supplement a fruit smoothie or smoothie bowl with some veggies to balance everything out. Chopped spinach gives a rich green color to our bowl as well as tons of nutrients.

How to Make a Green Smoothie Bowl - Extra Thick!

I actually prefer smoothie bowls over drinking smoothies. Smoothie bowls are much thicker, and you can add toppings to really round out the meal with more protein, healthy fats, etc. Dig in to it with a spoon, and you'll have a fulfilling breakfast, brunch, or even dessert!

This green smoothie bowl recipe is a must-try. To get the super-thick base, we're going to use frozen bananas, fresh kiwi, and chopped spinach. Blend it all up until it's a bit choppy. Then, slowly add in almond milk while blending - about a tablespoon at a time. Keep blending until you reach that perfect consistency.

I usually pop the bowl back into the freezer while I'm prepping any extra toppings. The pistachios add such a nice crunch and flavor, and they tie to our green color theme perfectly. Any leftover kiwi gets sliced and added on top, as well as some juicy strawberries. Round out your bowl with some shredded coconut and an agave drizzle on top if you want extra sweetness. Some other great toppings that I've used with a green smoothie bowl: granola, flax seed, and blueberries.

Because I upped the amount of frozen ripe bananas, it was naturally sweetened without any additives! Similar to my Purple Rain Smoothie Bowl, whether you're on Whole30 or not you'll love this for breakfast or brunch.

    Instructions

    • Place your bowls in the freezer while preparing the bowl.
    • In a blender, add frozen banana, kiwi, and spinach. Blend until it has a choppy consistency.
[Pro tip: to get your toppings to perfectly sit on top, your smoothie base has to be thick. The way we are going to blend these ingredients keeps the texture we need!]
    • Add almond milk a little at a time until you get to a thick, spoon-worthy consistency.
    • Add the smoothie base to your cold bowls. Put your bowls back in the freezer to ensure they stay cool.
