My "Purple Rain" Mixed Berry Smoothie Bowl is packed with lots of fiber and natural sweetness from the frozen berries. You can have a feel-good bowl to indulge in, ready to go in about 10 minutes!

Welcome to the very first installment of my Music Smoothie Bowl Series! This bowl is honoring one of my favorite musicians of all time, Prince Rogers Nelson. His sixth studio album Purple Rain spent 24 consecutive weeks on the Billboard 200, with singles like "When Doves Cry" and "Let's Go Crazy" that went number one on the Hot 100 chart. It also serves as the soundtrack to Prince's feature film debut (of the same name) that gives a semi-autobiographical look into his journey.
The beautiful purple color that you get from the frozen blackberries, strawberries, and raspberries made me immediately think of his signature song and album. Add a drizzle of agave for extra sweetness, or sprinkle chopped nuts and crunchy granola on top.

The Coined Breakdown
- Total Cost per serving: $3.79
- Total Cost (two bowls): $7.58
- Those Other Guys: $14.99 per bowl
Ingredients

- Strawberries - Grab frozen strawberries for the base of our smoothie bowl, and add a few freshly sliced berries on top for garnish.
- Frozen Blueberries - For extra sweetness (all natural!) and nutrients.
- Frozen Raspberries - I also add a little frozen raspberries to get that perfect purple hue.
- Almond Milk - Helps to bring all of our ingredients together in the blender.
- Topping Ideas - Get creative! I always add homemade granola, fresh berries, and some form of crunch like chia seeds, coconut, or nuts.
Variations and Substitutions
No Added Sweeteners: To sweeten the smoothie without any additional sweeteners (and keep it Whole30), try adding frozen cherries or chopped dates to the blender. The cherries will slightly darken the color of the bowl.
Other Mix-Ins: Protein powder, yogurt, or an açaí packet are great to mix into the smoothie base.
Topping Ideas: Try sliced almonds, hemp seeds, flax seeds, shredded coconut, or extra sliced fruit on top. You can also drizzle on peanut butter or almond butter.

Recipe Pro Tips for a Creamy, Thick Mixed Berry Smoothie Bowl
- Set your frozen ingredients out for 5 minutes. This is especially important if you don't have a high-powered blender.
- Use a small amount of milk. Adding a ton of milk will thin the smoothie out quickly. Trust the process, and stop blending every so often to scrape down the bowl if needed.
- Keep the bowls cold. I always store the bowls in the freezer while preparing everything. This way, your smoothie bowl doesn't start melting right away!
Recipe FAQs
Nope - this is a mixed berry smoothie bowl made with no bananas!
I'm honestly not a fan of banana flavor, and the flavor is so overpowering in smoothies. To mimic the creamy texture that banana lends, we're using frozen fruit like blueberries and strawberries.
You can pre-portion the ingredients (except the milk) in freezer-safe bags and store them in the freezer. When you're ready to eat, simply blend the contents of the bag with some milk; then serve.
Add any leftover smoothie base to an ice tray. Freeze until solid, then store in a freezer-safe container.
Later, you can pop those frozen cubes right back into your blender to make another smoothie or smoothie bowl!
