    Ingredients

A wooden board containing ingredients for vegetarian pulled meat sliders, including canned jackfruit, bbq sauce, and bouillon powder.
    • Canned Green Jackfruit - Green jackfruit, which is unripe jackfruit, has a meaty texture when shredded and a very neutral taste that will take on the flavor of whatever it's seasoned with.
    • Bouillon Powder - Boiling in a homemade broth gets rid of that briny taste from the jackfruit. To keep it completely vegan - use vegetable bouillon paste. If you are just trying to cut down on your meat consumption, you can use chicken bouillon.
    • Worcestershire - Worcestershire sauce gives a smoky element to the jackfruit, to further mimic pulled pork.
    • Burger Seasoning - Burger seasoning gives our green jackfruit lots of flavor... be sure to use your favorite blend!
    • Barbecue Sauce - Of course, vegan BBQ pulled pork requires BBQ sauce. Get your go-to brand, or make your own.

    Variations and Substitutions

Toppings: Customize to your taste! Try caramelized onions, spicy mustard, bread and butter pickles, or your favorite sliced cheese.

How to Make BBQ Pulled Jackfruit Sliders

A pot of canned jackfruit boiling in broth.

Step 1: Start out by draining the canned jackfruit, then adding it to a pot with water and vegetable (or chicken) bouillon.

Boil for 15 minutes, then drain the water and shred with a fork. Remove any seeds as necessary.

A bowl of shredded canned jackfruit tossed in seasonings and BBQ sauce.

Step 2: Add Worcestershire sauce, burger seasoning, and bbq sauce to the bowl of shredded jackfruit.

    Stir until it's well covered.

A fork spreading coleslaw onto vegetarian pulled meat sliders.

Step 3: Assemble the sliders on a sheet pan. I love to add homemade coleslaw and pickles.

Garlic butter being spread onto the tops of slider buns using a pastry brush.

Step 4: Brush the tops with garlic butter, then bake at 350°F for 5 minutes until warmed through. Serve and enjoy!

    Recipe Pro Tip

    1. Don't skip the boiling. Boiling the drained jackfruit in broth gets rid of the flavor of the brine. Don't skip this!

    Recipe FAQs

Can I make these jackfruit sliders ahead of time?

Yes, you sure can! Assemble as instructed. Right before serving, bake for 5 minutes until warmed through.

Where can I find canned jackfruit?

Lots of natural food stores like Sprouts or Whole Foods sell canned jackfruit. I also always find cans of jackfruit at Asian markets like H-Mart.

Can I use a different type of vegan meat?

Of course! Grab your favorite brand of meatless pulled chicken/pork and toss in BBQ sauce before assembling your sliders.
