Don't worry about take-out for tonight - this Cast Iron White Chicken Pizza is your answer to a delicious meal ready in less than 30 minutes! We make and assemble the entire pizza in a cast iron skillet for a perfectly cooked crust. It's irresistible!

Making pizza in a cast iron skillet is actually my new favorite discovery. It's the perfect size for two (or a personal pan pizza - I won't judge!), and using a cast iron really cooks the crust in a way that's much harder to do in a home oven without extra tools. And with my no-rise pizza dough recipe, you'll be on your way to a tasty meal in no time!

The Coined Breakdown
- Total Cost per slice: $0.36
- Total Cost (8 slices): $2.88
- Those Other Guys: $10.99 per pizza
Ingredients
- Pizza Dough - Either you can use my 5-minute pizza dough recipe (we only use half in this recipe, so you can double up!), or grab fresh pizza dough from your local grocery store.
- Olive Oil - Used to grease up our cast iron skillet before baking the pizza dough.
- Garlic Butter - White pizza traditionally does not have any type of sauce. Here, we're making a quick mix of salted butter, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Then, we will spread that on the bottom crust to create a new layer of flavor. Save some to brush on top of the crust when cooked!
- Cheese Blend - This recipe uses two different types of cheeses! Thinly sliced provolone, and shredded mozzarella. Purchase high quality cheeses if you can.
- Chicken - Any type of cooked chicken works here: leftover from another recipe, cubed chicken, or shredded rotisserie.
- Black Olives - For some umami and extra veggies.
- Fresh Spinach Leaves - For a little green on our cast iron pizza.
Variations and Substitutions
Roasted Red Pepper Cast Iron Pizza: Top the pizza dough with roasted red pepper sauce, Italian sausage, Monterey Jack cheese, and jalapeños.
BBQ Chicken Cast Iron Pizza: Instead of red sauce, spread BBQ sauce on the bottom crust. Top with seasoned cooked chicken, sliced red onions, and tons of chopped cilantro!
Pesto Cast Iron Pizza: Spread some nut-free pesto sauce on the crust, followed by goat cheese and mozzarella, sun-dried tomatoes, mushrooms, and caramelized onions.
How to Make Cast Iron White Chicken Pizza
Step 1: Pour the olive oil into your room-temperature cast iron skillet.
Add your ball of pizza dough. Using your fingers, press the dough around the bottom until it fills every corner of the skillet. Leave a ring around the edge that will become a crust.
Step 2: While your oven is preheating, cook the pizza on medium-high heat on the stovetop until the bottom is golden brown and sturdy enough to lift in one piece.
Step 3: Mix together the butter, garlic powder, and Italian seasonings. Spread that garlic butter onto the bottom of the crust using a pastry brush.
Step 4: Finally, top with your remaining pizza toppings.
Bake the pizza at 500℉ for 8-10 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is nice and melty.
Recipe Pro Tips
- No air bubbles. When cooking the bottom on the stovetop, it may begin to bubble up. Simply use a spatula to press the bubbles down and release that air for an evenly golden-brown crust.
- How hot can your oven go? If your oven doesn't go up to 500℉, simply crank it as high as it will go and bake. I've baked this pizza at 425/450℉ - just adjust the cooking times accordingly.
- Mind your cheeses. Don't use the fresh mozzarella that comes in a ball. That has far too much water for our purpose. If you can find good-quality block mozzarella and shred, go with that.
- Finally, make it your own! The cooking method works for all types of cast iron pizzas! You can make multiples and use personalized toppings, or switch up any flavor combinations as you see fit.
Recipe FAQs
Any type of fresh dough, whether homemade or store-bought, works here. I don't recommend the pizza crust that is already pre-baked.
Yes! My recipe cooks the bottom of the crust on the stovetop for an extra crispy texture, but you can also just assemble everything and bake completely in the oven. Your cooking time will increase by maybe 10-15 minutes.
You can actually throw it right back onto the cast iron skillet and bake at 350/375℉ until warmed through. My favorite way to reheat pizza, however, is to put it in the air fryer for a few minutes!
